Racing Incident Report
When leaving the Parade Ring, DJEREED and FOREVER CHARMING bumped the running rail. After arriving at the Start, these horses were examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion they were suitable to race. When the gates opened, FOREVER CHARMING bounded in the air and lost ground, then in the early stages got its head up on a number of occasions. CHIU CHOW HERO was slow to begin, then in the early stages when proving difficult to settle got its head up on a number of occasions. On jumping, WATCHMAN was checked and HIGHLIGHT crowded for room between POSEIDON which shifted out and NAOMERIC TE SPECSO which shifted in. When WATCHMAN was checked, K C Tsang, its rider, became badly unbalanced. In the early stages, SIGHT FIRST, with the intention of being ridden forward should it begin well today, was allowed to stride forward and race behind the leader. After the 1400 Metres, RECOGNITION, which had its head on the side and was laying in, shifted ground and was steadied away from the heels of BAYVIEW LAD. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, WATCHMAN, which had been racing without cover, got its head on the side and hung out. For a short distance near the 200 Metres, WINNING ASSOCIATES had difficulty improving on the inside of SUPER BEST and towards the outside of the heels of CONGEE KING which was giving ground. Over about the final 100 Metres, COSMO STAR was unable to obtain clear running inside CONGEE KING which was giving ground and because of this was not properly tested. BAYVIEW LAD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. CHIU CHOW HERO was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, BAYVIEW LAD and CHIU CHOW HERO were examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. SIGHT FIRST and WINNING ASSOCIATES were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 12 January 2004)
BAYVIEW LAD, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. BAYVIEW LAD was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer T K Ng yesterday. He said at this time he noted the horse had been struck into the left hind cannon. Before being allowed to race again, BAYVIEW LAD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
