Racing Incident Report
FRUITFUL TRIP was withdrawn on 5.12.03 on veterinary grounds (lame left hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter FORTUNE LAD (G Schofield). Before being allowed to race again, FRUITFUL TRIP will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, TORI TOP bounded in the air, shifted out abruptly and made heavy contact with BARRACUDA. Shortly after this, LUCKY FRIENDS shifted out and bumped TORI TOP. ALLEGRO was slow to begin. At the 1300 Metres, WATCH KING was momentarily steadied away from the heels of ELEGANCE which shifted in when only just clear. At the 1100 Metres, JADE RUYI was ridden along to hold its position inside TORI TOP. G Schofield (FORTUNE LAD) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 600 Metres he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount shifting in when not clear of JADE RUYI, causing that horse to be crowded for room, lose its rightful running and be severely checked. In the circumstances of this case, it was decided the appropriate penalty was for G Schofield's licence to ride in races be suspended until Thursday 18 December 2003 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The Stewards acceded to a request from G Schofield that he be permitted to commence the suspension immediately as a number of races at the Happy Valley meeting next Wednesday night 10 December 2003 are set aside for invited riders only. LUCKY FRIENDS, NO COMPROMISE and BARRACUDA, which were following JADE RUYI, were checked in consequence. Near the 400 Metres, ALLEGRO and TORI TOP bumped. FORTUNE LAD, which was following, was steadied and shifted out. Making the Home Turn, JADE RUYI was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GLORIOUS VICTORY which was giving ground. Then for some distance in the early part of the Straight, JADE RUYI was checked away from the heels of GLORIOUS VICTORY which continued to give ground. On straightening, BARRACUDA was steadied and shifted in away from the heels of ARRIBA-ARRIBA (H K Yim) which shifted out when not properly clear. H K Yim was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. JADE RUYI was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of JADE RUYI after the race did not show any significant findings. TORI TOP, LUCKY FRIENDS and FORTUNE LAD were sent for sampling.
