Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, it was noted CHECK MATE had lost its right front plate during the preliminary. The horse was re-plated behind the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. QUICK NEWS was slow to begin. GETMORE DANCER, which was to be ridden quietly today from its wide draw, was immediately taken back after jumping and shifted across behind runners to a position on the rail but at the rear. Shortly after the start, LUCKY KING and MOUNT MEDIC were momentarily crowded for room between GETMORE DANCER and THE ONLY ONE which shifted in when being ridden to go forward. Approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, HIGHLAND DAWN was awkwardly placed inside the heels of HARVEY MUDD. For a considerable distance after straightening, DRAGON'S ERA and FORTUNE MASTER raced tight. After the 100 Metres, HARVEY MUDD was struck on the nose by the whip of D Whyte (CHECK MATE). Throughout the race, GOLDEN STRIDE race wide and without cover. D Dunn (LUCKY KING) explained after the 200 Metres his horse was finishing the race off nicely and at that stage he considered he had a strong chance to be in the finish. He said after the 100 Metes he looked to his inside in an attempt to establish his position in running. JOINT PEACE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, JOINT PEACE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. HARVEY MUDD and CHECK MATE were sent for sampling. Following the race, it was reported DRAGON'S ERA had bled from both nostrils.
