Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, it was noted the tongue tie on HEALTHY FRUITS had loosened. This was refitted before the horse was boxed. On jumping, AMO began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall and because of this G Schofield momentarily lost the use of his right side iron. FELICITY was slow to begin. LIGHTNING BOLT began awkwardly and lost ground. An inquiry into the reason for H K Yim being dislodged from DRAGON HORSE at the 800 Metres was adjourned to a date to be fixed as H K Yim was unavailable following him being transported to hospital. When H K Yim was dislodged, LIGHTNING BOLT and COMPANION were severely hampered and AMO was hampered. After the race, DRAGON HORSE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. Making the Home Turn, FELICITY raced tight inside SNIPPETYIYEA and bumped the running rail. The Stewards overruled a protest/objection lodged by D Dunn, the rider of ALWAYS WELCOME, which finished second, against GRAND FIGHTER (W Smith) being declared the winner alleging interference over the final 400 Metres. The Stewards considered that whilst GRAND FIGHTER shifted in slightly near the 200 Metres and inconvenienced ALWAYS WELCOME which was then steadied and shifted out, they did not consider bearing in mind the 1½ length margin between the two horses at the finish that ALWAYS WELCOME would have finished in front of GRAND FIGHTER had the interference which did take place not occurred. Accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. Shortly after straightening, SOUNDS BETTER and HELENE ELEGANCE bumped. Then after the 200 Metres, SOUNDS BETTER, which was commencing to give ground, was momentarily steadied when crowded for room inside HELENE ELEGANCE which shifted in. At the 200 Metres, SIGHT CHAMPION and SNIPPETYIYEA bumped. For some distance after the 100 Metres, HEALTHY FRUITS was steadied when unable to obtain clear running between AMO and FELICITY. D Whyte (SIGHT CHAMPION) explained making the turns and in the Straight SIGHT CHAMPION hung in and on several occasions raced tight with SNIPPETYIYEA, then over the concluding stages he became concerned with its action, therefore did not ride the horse out to the end of the race as it normally would. He said when trotting back after the race SIGHT CHAMPION seemed uneven in its action. Before being permitted to race again, SIGHT CHAMPION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GRAND FIGHTER and ALWAYS WELCOME were sent for sampling.
