Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, G Schofield, the rider of BOBO WIN, reported the horse had hit its head on a rail on the way to the Start. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. KENWOOD MELODY began very awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and because of this, A Marcus, its rider, was almost dislodged. When KENWOOD MELODY shifted out, inconvenience was caused to SANGREAL and SNOWSTORM which had been slow to begin. ALL DONE began awkwardly and lost a considerable amount of ground at the start. CHIU CHOW BROTHER was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, FLYING MACHINE was tightened for room between DANEHILL WARRIOR and KENWOOD MELODY. An inquiry into the reason for SNOWSTORM falling at the 1000 Metres was adjourned to a date to be fixed as K S Yu, its rider, was immediately transported to hospital. When SNOWSTORM fell, SHANE was severely hampered and checked. SUPER KID and ALL DONE were hampered. S Dye (SUPER KID) said from a wide draw he had been instructed to ride the horse in a rearward position as was its overseas racing pattern. He said when SNOWSTORM fell at about the 1000 Metres he shifted to the inside of that horse, however, any inconvenience he received was not of great significance. He said he then immediately shifted back out away from the fence to a position behind SHANE which was going forward off him at that point. He said making the Home Turn he commenced to urge SUPER KID forward, however, the horse was slow to respond, he then continued to ride along hands and heels in the early part of the Straight and after the 200 Metres when being ridden with the whip, SUPER KID did make ground, however, was only passing horses which were giving ground. He said after the race SUPER KID was blowing hard. S Dye was told his riding in the middle stages was of concern to the Stewards and he should ensure at all times he rides in a manner which is not open to query. When questioned, D Dunn (CELESTIAL MAGIC) said the horse had travelled comfortably and relaxed in the run behind PAOBRIDGE. He said because it was relaxed today CELESTIAL MAGIC did not hang out as badly as it usually does. He said after straightening he eased CELESTIAL MAGIC towards the outside of PAOBRIDGE and at about the 250 Metres he asked CELESTIAL MAGIC to go forward, however, the horse did not quicken today under the 131 lbs as it had done previously. He said when he placed CELESTIAL MAGIC under pressure, BOBO WIN, the eventual winner, was still at least a length behind him and he was aware runners were beginning to close the race off from behind. He said CELESTIAL MAGIC took time to pass PAOBRIDGE which surprised him and when placed under full pressure as BOBO WIN joined him, CELESTIAL MAGIC commenced to hang out and did not quicken as he had hoped. He added in the run to the winning post CELESTIAL MAGIC was unable to make any ground on BOBO WIN and in fact that horse increased its margin over CELESTIAL MAGIC. D Dunn said his riding of CELESTIAL MAGIC today was wholly consistent with the manner in which he rode the horse when it won at Sha Tin on 21 September 2003. He said on that occasion however when carrying a lesser weight, CELESTIAL MAGIC was able to quicken when placed under pressure and also had the benefit of racing outside runners and therefore was allowed to drift up the track when hanging. He did point out the rating of CELESTIAL MAGIC had increased appreciably as a result of it having won only two starts this season. The explanations of D Dunn were accepted. WINTROW, BOBO WIN and CELESTIAL MAGIC were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that he had examined ALL DONE which was making an abnormal breathing noise. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to be an early "roarer". Before being permitted to race again, ALL DONE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
