Racing Incident Report
WINNING LAURELS began awkwardly and lost ground. COSMO STAR was a little slow to begin and then was bumped by SAVINGS ACCOUNT which shifted out. SPEEDY EXPRESS began awkwardly, resulting in Apprentice K T Yeung, its rider, becoming unbalanced. BACK SEAT DRIVER, which was to be ridden with cover today, was steadied and shifted in to a position about midfield shortly after the start. At the 500 Metres, BACK SEAT DRIVER got its head on the side, shifted out and clipped the heels of NOBLE VICTORY and stumbled. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. In the Straight, COSMO STAR hung in and proved difficult to ride. Also in the Straight, THE FACULTY hung in. ETERNAL START, which performed poorly, was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, ETERNAL START was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood and mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being permitted to race again, ETERNAL START will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. COUNTRY MUSIC and SUPREME MOLLY were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted NOBLE VICTORY had sustained multiple small lacerations to the right hind hock.
