Racing Incident Report
When the gates opened, GOOD RECORD bounded in the air. RAINBOW AND GOLD was slow to begin. Near the 1400 Metres, OLYMPIC GOLD, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of KEEN MARSHAL which shifted in when only just clear. TOP PRIZE, which was following, was steadied in consequence. R Fradd (PERFETTO) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 300 Metres after being disappointed for running between OLYMPIC GOLD and TOP PRIZE, he shifted his mount out when not clear of NASA PEARL, causing that horse to strike the hind legs of PERFETTO, blunder and almost fall [Rule 100(1)]. In the circumstances of this case, having considered the consequential effects of this incident, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for R Fradd's licence to ride in races be suspended until Monday 3 November 2003 on which day he may resume race riding (5 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension is to take immediate effect. D Dunn (KEEN MARSHAL) said when the horse was successful at its last start he settled in 4th or 5th position and travelled comfortably, then showed a nice turn of foot on straightening. He said today he was instructed he was to be no further back than 2nd position and accordingly he rode the horse along in the early stages to follow DYNAMIC FUN. He said after straightening KEEN MARSHAL did not quicken as it had at its previous start and then when SONGS OF PRAISE improved past him near the 300 Metres, KEEN MARSHAL shifted out towards that horse, obliging him to stop riding and straighten his mount. DYNAMIC FUN and OLYMPIC GOLD were sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of DYNAMIC FUN and OLYMPIC GOLD after the race did not reveal any abnormalities. KEEN MARSHAL, PERFETTO and SONGS OF PRAISE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted TOP PRIZE had sustained a small laceration to the left hind pastern and PERFETTO had sustained a wound to the left hind heel.
