Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, JAZZ BEAT became fractious, reared and sustained a wound to its left hind leg. Acting on the advice from the Veterinary Surgeon that JAZZ BEAT was not suitable to race, the Stewards ordered the horse to be withdrawn. Before being allowed to race again, JAZZ BEAT will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. HELENE VITALITY was slow to begin and proved difficult to settle in the early stages. Shortly after the start, SUCCESSIVE GAINS and NORTHERN GOLD BALL were momentarily crowded for room by KIDDYLAND which shifted in. At the 1400 Metres, KIDDYLAND was momentarily crowded for room by LUCKY OWNERS. After the 1400 Metres, CELEBRATION was steadied away from the heels of DANAMITE. Some inconvenience was caused to HAPPY MOMENTUM which was proving difficult to settle. The performance of SUCCESSIVE GAINS, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before the horse will be permitted to race again, it must perform competitively in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. SUCCESSIVE GAINS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, SUCCESSIVE GAINS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. LUCKY OWNERS and CLASSIC MASTER were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 15 September 2003)
After the race, SUCCESSIVE GAINS, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. SUCCESSIVE GAINS was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K L Man yesterday and at this time was found to be significantly "jarred up" in both front legs.
As previously advised, SUCCESSIVE GAINS will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before racing again.
