Racing Incident Report

EXCELLENCE was withdrawn on 5.9.03 on veterinary grounds (lame left hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter PLENTY OF LUCK (S K Sit). FREE WAY was also withdrawn on 5.9.03 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter TRY THE BEST (R Fradd). Before being allowed to race again, EXCELLENCE and FREE WAY will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. STRONG SUN began awkwardly with its head up. On jumping, GOOD HEART, PLENTY OF LUCK, SUPER DANA and SING AND DRINK were hampered and carried wider by TRY THE BEST which shifted out. Also on jumping, HANDBAG DRAGON and DOUCAI bumped. Then in the early stages, DOUCAI hung in. Throughout the race, SOUTHERN LIGHT raced wide and without cover. J Quinn (SHANGHAI FRIEND) was advised he would be expected to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race wherever possible. S Dye (CHING HOI BOY) said when he had ridden the horse in griffin races, he forced the horse to race in a forward position. He said in its track work and trials leading up to today's race, he had been riding CHING HOI BOY in an effort to have it settled in the run and his instructions today were to allow the horse to travel where it was comfortable. He said CHING HOI BOY began well, he allowed the horse to settle which was behind midfield and because of this it was able to finish the race off strongly despite hanging in. STRONG SUN and SCREAMING EAGLE were sent for sampling. Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported TRY THE BEST had bled from both nostrils.
