Racing Incident Report
WINNING LAURELS was withdrawn on 17.6.03 on veterinary grounds (lame right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter DEVON ELITE (M Cahill). Before being allowed to race again, WINNING LAURELS will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. DANHERO began awkwardly and bumped the inside of its gate. On jumping, ABLE EAGLE stumbled and shifted in abruptly, causing D'OR WIN which had been slow to begin to be checked. Also on jumping, KEY TO SUCCESS and GOLDEN FARM bumped. FORTUNE MASTER was a little slow to begin and shortly after the start was crowded for room between HK ISLAND VICTORY and EPIC ENTERPRISE. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, ABLE EAGLE was steadied away from the heels of DANHERO. On the latter part of the Home Turn, ABLE EAGLE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DANHERO. At the 100 Metres, EPIC ENTERPRISE, which had been hanging in, was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of MAJIN BUU which was giving ground. Apprentice K T Yeung (DANHERO) pleaded guilty to two charges of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The particulars of the first charge were that near the 800 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of HK ISLAND VICTORY, causing that horse to lose its rightful running, be checked and caused crowding on its inside to EPIC ENTERPRISE which was also checked. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for Apprentice Yeung to be fined a sum of $45,000. The particulars of the second charge were that near the 200 Metres he shifted DANHERO out when not clear of AMAZING, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. When AMAZING was checked, inconvenience was caused on its outside to DEVON ELITE, GOLDEN FARM and HK ISLAND VICTORY. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for Apprentice Yeung to be fined an additional $15,000, thereby making his total fine one of $60,000. When arriving at the penalties imposed, consideration was given to Apprentice Yeung's relative inexperience. AMAZING, DANHERO and ABLE EAGLE were sent for sampling.
