Racing Incident Report
RIVER DANCER and MERIDIAN STAR began awkwardly. In the early stages, OUR CLASS proved difficult to settle. Making the Home Turn and in the Straight, RED SUN hung out. On straightening, ABLE CHOICE was carried wider by RIVER DANCER which shifted to the outside of HO CHOI to improve. After the 400 Metres, THANK HEAVENS, which was being shifted to the outside to obtain clear runnning, was momentarily steadied to allow MERIDIAN STAR to continue forward before being able to shift out across that horse's heels. W C Marwing (HO CHOI) explained the horse's work leading into tonight's race had been good and he felt the horse had improved from its last start win. He said HO CHOI travelled comfortably on the bridle in a good position until straightening and when he then asked the horse to quicken, it failed to do so and kept on only one paced. He said tonight was the first time since its arrival in Hong Kong that HO CHOI had raced on a soft track and it felt to him that the horse was not comfortable on this type of surface. HO CHOI was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, HO CHOI was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. CITIZEN KANE and MERIDIAN STAR were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported ABLE CHOICE had returned with a cut to the left hind pastern and RED SUN had lost its right fore plate.
