Racing Incident Report
HANDBAG DRAGON and RARE were slow to begin. After the 1000 Metres, RARE became unbalanced when awkwardly placed close to the heels of TANAHMERAH. Near the 700 Metres, TANAHMERAH, which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SHERIFF BAMBOO, got its head on the side, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of GOLDEN PROMISE which as a result became unbalanced. On straightening, CHAMP DE UNION was steadied when unable to obtain clear running between GOLDEN PROMISE and SHERIFF BAMBOO. At the 200 Metres, TANAHMERAH and BRILLIANT EXPRESS bumped as a result of both horses shifting ground. Also at the 200 Metres, SHERIFF BAMBOO was bumped by CHAMP DE UNION which was taken out by GOLDEN PROMISE. Throughout the race, GOLDEN STRIDE was obliged to race wide and without cover. W C Marwing explained prior to the winning post COMPANION turned its head to the left hand side and in his opinion attempted to savage GOLDEN PROMISE. As this is the second occasion in which COMPANION has savaged another runner during the race, the horse will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial amongst runners before being permitted to race again. EVEN TILDEN was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, EVEN TILDEN was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying a heart irregularity. Before being allowed to race again, EVEN TILDEN will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TANAHMERAH, ESCALATION and BRILLIANT EXPRESS were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that ESCALATION had been galloped on the right hind leg. An inquiry into the reason for CHAMP DE UNION and HANDBAG DRAGON being checked near the 100 Metres was adjourned until before the first race at Sha Tin next Sunday 1 June 2003.
