Racing Incident Report

MONEY was slow to begin. ADVANCE AHEAD began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of MASCOT. Shortly after the start, EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT was steadied away from the heels of WINNING PARADE which shifted in. Also shortly after the start, HAPPY DRAGON was steadied when crowded for room between SILLY BOY and THE ONLY ONE which shifted out. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, FANTASTIC STAR was severely checked when crowded for room inside THE ONLY ONE which was taken in by SILLY BOY (R Fradd) which despite having its head turned out shifted in away from MASCOT which itself shifted in slightly. Although the check to FANTASTIC STAR was one of significance, the Stewards were of the opinion R Fradd had made sufficient effort to prevent his horse from shifting in and the shift from MASCOT had also contributed to the incident. Therefore no action was taken. PORT OF HOPE, which was following FANTASTIC STAR, was checked in consequence. At the 300 Metres, EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT was brushed by LATIN DANCER which shifted to the outside of THE ONLY ONE to obtain clear running. Over the concluding stages, EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT hung out. In the Straight, ADVANCE AHEAD hung out and proved difficult to ride. Throughout the race, WINNING PARADE was obliged to race wide and without cover. ASSET PLAY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, ASSET PLAY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant quantity of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ASSET PLAY will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. LATIN DANCER and THE ONLY ONE were sent for sampling.
