Racing Incident Report

ABORIGINAL was withdrawn prior to the race on veterinary grounds (swollen left hind cannon). Before being allowed to race again, ABORIGINAL will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, KEY TO SUCCESS shifted out abruptly. This caused D Beasley, its rider, to become badly unbalanced and be dislodged. Before being allowed to race again, KEY TO SUCCESS will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. On jumping, DASHING CHAMPION stumbled. At the 1000 Metres, GREEN DIAMOND was steadied away from the heels of PAOBRIDGE. At the 600 Metres, ONE STEP AHEAD was checked when crowded by the riderless KEY TO SUCCESS. On straightening, DANHERO was steadied away from the heels of PAOBRIDGE. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in. They were of the prima facie view that an incident had occurred in the Straight which cast sufficient doubt on whether HELENE ELEGANCE should be declared second placegetter. After reviewing the available videos and after members of the Panel had expressed their opinions, the Stewards believed this was not an appropriate occasion in which they should exercise their special powers under Rule 123. Accordingly weighed-in was semaphored confirming the Judge's placings. While it did not influence the decision of whether the Stewards should exercise their powers under Rule 123, it should be noted that neither Jockey D Whyte nor the connections of GREEN DIAMOND, third placegetter, lodged a protest/objection. GREEN DIAMOND, ONE STEP AHEAD and HELENE ELEGANCE were sent for sampling.
