Racing Incident Report
CZAR OF PRUSSIA was late leaving the Parade Ring due to its left fore plate which had shifted being reset. When being fitted with a blindfold to be prepared for loading, WATCH ME WIN threw its head up, causing its bridle to come off. WATCH ME WIN broke free of the handlers, completed a circuit of the course and then when approaching the barriers while still loose was attempted to be slowed by the outriders, this was unsuccessful and WATCH ME WIN continued on and made contact with the back gates of stalls 7, 8 and 9. All other runners with the exception of CZAR OF PRUSSIA which had not yet been loaded remained in the stalls while WATCH ME WIN was loose. When WATCH ME WIN made contact with the gates, TABBRIS, which had drawn barrier 12, became fractious and broke open the front gates of its stall. After WATCH ME WIN had made contact with the gates, BOLD VISION, which had drawn stall 7, was removed from its stall, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. Acting on veterinary advice that WATCH ME WIN was not suitable to race, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the horse. FAST TRACK was slow to begin, was then hard ridden to improve its position and making the first turn got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of MR BASKETBALL. COMME D'HABITUDE was slow to begin. From an awkward gate, TABBRIS was obliged to race wide and without cover, then in the Straight dropped out. G Schofield (WAIALAE WIN) said he had ridden the horse in its morning work last Thursday and Friday and this work was only average, but this is normal with this horse. He said prior to going into the barriers, he attempted to liven WAIALAE WIN up, when the gates opened, the horse was slow to begin and then in his opinion was reluctant to stride out as it should. He was unable to explain the horse's performance. The performance of WAIALAE WIN was considered unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WAIALAE WIN and TABBRIS were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, WAIALAE WIN and TABBRIS were examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. CZAR OF PRUSSIA and INDUSTRIAL PRIDE were sent for sampling.
