Racing Incident Report
TUSITALA was slow to begin. When the gates opened, SUPREME STAR reared and threw its head about, consequently lost ground. SUPREME STAR then proved difficult to settle in the early stages and at the 800 Metres was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of HIGHLAND LEGEND. HAPPY CHAMP was slow to begin. In the early stages, when being steadied, BEARCAT proved difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up. Making the latter part of the Home Turn, HIGHLAND LEGEND hung out. Shortly after straightening, MAMOUSKA, which was laying in, was steadied away from the heels of SUN AND MING which shifted out. Near the 300 Metres, SPINNING CITY had difficulty obtaining clear running and after the 300 Metres to obtain a clear run, SPINNING CITY was shifted to the inside of IN THE MONEY. Throughout the race, EUPHORIC KID, which had drawn a wide barrier, was obliged to race wide and over the final 800 Metres without cover. Trainer D A Hayes (SPINNING CITY) explained when the horse had previously won its race, it had drawn wide and on that occasion was ridden in a rearward position, however, subsequently it had been ridden further forward as a result of having drawn better barriers. He said today from the outside barrier, he had instructed G Mossé to immediately steady SPINNING CITY and shift across behind runners to a position closer to the rail. Mr Hayes said in future when drawn wide, SPINNING CITY will be taken back, however, if it draws a more favourable barrier, the intention will be to have it ridden somewhere about midfield. MAMOUSKA was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of MAMOUSKA after the race did not reveal any significant findings. EUPHORIC KID, SPINNING CITY and IN THE MONEY were sent for sampling.
