Racing Incident Report

DASHING WINNER was withdrawn on 15.2.03 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter FERRULE. Before DASHING WINNER can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. BULL'S EYE, FERRULE and KINDRED SPIRITS were slow to begin. From the outside barrier, MAGIC HANDS was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position on the rail. Near the 800 Metres, SPLENDID PATROL and CLEMENT SUPREME came together as SPLENDID PATROL shifted out from behind MAN OF HONOUR. In the Straight when under pressure, DANAMITE hung in. Apprentice M W Leung (NORTHERN GOLD BALL) said he had been instructed that he should follow FERRULE in the run. He said in accordance with this instruction, despite NORTHERN GOLD BALL having begun well, he immediately steadied his mount to race in a rearward position. He said in hindsight he had erred by allowing ASIA RISING to shift in in front of him at about the 1300 Metres when there was an opportunity for him to hold a position behind SUN SHINE RIVER. He said this resulted in him racing further back than was intended. The Stewards advised Apprentice M W Leung his explanations would be accepted. MAGNIFIER and FERRULE were sent for sampling.
