Racing Incident Report
PORT OF HOPE bounded in the air at the start, shifted in and bumped THE ONLY ONE on the hindquarters. FORTUNE LAD began awkwardly with its head up and shifted out. This caused some inconvenience to HAPPY WINNING which as a result lost ground. SPEED FIRE was slow to begin. From a wide barrier, FOREVER CHARMING was obliged to race wide and without cover throughout. At the 1000 Metres, AMO was awkwardly placed on the heels of SIR OCTAVIUS which shifted out away from the heels of AMAZING VICTORY. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, PORT OF HOPE got its head up, shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of SENSIBLE ADVICE. At the 800 Metres, STRATEGUS and COOL SWING, which was hanging out, were tightened for room by SIR OCTAVIUS which shifted in. After the 800 Metres, STRATEGUS was steadied to avoid the heels of AMAZING VICTORY (C Soumillon) which shifted in when not quite clear. C Soumillon was reprimanded and told to ensure he is clear before shifting ground. In the middle stages, COOL SWING hung out. At the 600 Metres, COOL SWING, which was continuing to race ungenerously and hang out, was checked to avoid the heels of SIR OCTAVIUS (S Dye) which shifted in when not quite clear. The Stewards were of the opinion COOL SWING had made a contribution to the incident itself, however, S Dye was severely reprimanded and told he should ensure he is clear at all times before shifting ground. When placed under pressure after straightening, AMAZING VICTORY shifted out while hanging. COOL SWING was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, the Veterinary Officer examined COOL SWING. No significant findings were made. AMAZING VICTORY and STRATEGUS were sent for sampling. Following the race, it was noted SIR OCTAVIUS had sustained a laceration to the heels of its right hind foot.
