Racing Incident Report
When being weighed before the race, ELITE WIN kicked out and cracked the "Equilox" bonding of its right hind foot. The horse's foot was examined by the Head Farrier who said he was satisfied with the security of the shoe. ELITE WIN was trotted up and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. After the race, ELITE WIN was examined by the Head Farrier. The horse's right foot was examined and no additional abnormalities were detected. MONETARY STAR proved very difficult to manage during the parade. At one stage P Smullen was obliged to dismount. MONETARY STAR then tailed out. After the race, MONETARY STAR was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the indications were that the horse had a dynamic pharyngeal collapse. He did say it may be necessary for a treadmill endoscopy to be performed to confirm this. The performance of the horse was considered unacceptable. Before it can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily and competitively in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. It will also have to be established that the horse can participate satisfactorily in a pre-race parade. After being boxed, TELECOM TYCOON became fractious and momentarily had a leg caught between the gates. The horse was released and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said it was suitable to race. Just as the gates were opening, BUCK'S FIZZ put its head down, as a consequence of this left the gates very awkwardly, bumped the inside of its starting stall and lost a lot of ground. Then near the 700 Metres, BUCK'S FIZZ threw its head about when pulling and close to the heels of SCHOOL DAYS and just after straightening was again steadied when disappointed for running inside WIN OKAY. FIGHTING MASCOT also jumped awkwardly and bumped the inside of its starting stall. CHERISHED, which was restless after being boxed, was slowly away. Near the 1200 Metres, WIN HUNTER was steadied and shifted in to a position behind ELITE WIN, in doing so became momentarily unbalanced and struck the running rail. About the 1000 Metres, CHERISHED was steadied when WIN OKAY shifted to a position on the rail. ELITE WIN, SURE FIT and DESERT STRIKE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted WIN OKAY was bleeding from both nostrils. Subsequent to the race, G Schofield (SCHOOL DAYS) said the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise. An endoscopic examination revealed the horse was a "roarer".
