Racing Incident Report
LUCKY TRIO left the gates very awkwardly and shifted out a long way across the running of BRILLIANT EXPRESS and PENTACLES. BRILLIANT EXPRESS was slowly away. Just after the start, SING A SONG and CONVERGENCE came together. About the 1000 Metres, DEREK'S CHOICE was severely checked when crowded between LUCKY TRIO and HONOUR SUPREME which shifted out away from SING A SONG. The check to DEREK'S CHOICE was severe, however, the Stewards were of the view it was accidental and no action taken. Almost at the finish, SING A SONG was steadied when crowded between CONVERGENCE and HONOUR SUPREME which was shifting in. DEREK'S CHOICE, LUCKY TRIO and WELL BEST were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 24 Oct. 2002) :
The Club's Senior Veterinary Officer, Dr Brian Stewart, has this morning advised when he examined DEREK'S CHOICE at the stable of Trainer D Cruz, he noted the horse was lame in its left side front leg. Dr Stewart said the matter has been referred to the stable Veterinary Surgeon who diagnosed the lameness was as a result of the horse having bruised heels with some muscle soreness in its shoulder.
Before DEREK'S CHOICE can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
