Racing Incident Report
On the way to the Start, A Marcus was dislodged from SIR TIMAH. The horse worked a short distance before being caught and was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion SIR TIMAH was suitable to race. PREDATOR jumped awkwardly and threw its head about. CHEROKEE EXPRESS left the gates somewhat awkwardly, shifted out, then appeared to be reluctant to stride out and got back, then throughout the race hung in. In the early and middle stages, GLORY ST PAUL'S proved very difficult to settle, raced with its head up and hung out. S Dye (SPOT ON) said he worked the horse on the 1800 Metre gallop last Monday, this work he considered was promising and he was anxious to ride SPOT ON tonight. He said SPOT ON left the gates cleanly, was not able to show the speed he thought it would to go forward and he therefore elected to take up a position towards the rear but following HANDSOME MAN. He said however at no stage did SPOT ON travel as he thought it would, in the Straight he shifted the horse to the outside in the hope it would make some ground, but SPOT ON was in his opinion quite one paced to the line. SPOT ON was sent for sampling and a clinical veterinary examination. HOLY RANTO was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, the Veterinary Officer said HOLY RANTO was lame in both hind legs. Before HOLY RANTO can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. LASER GLORY and CHEVAL D'OR were sent for sampling.
Additional veterinary reports: Dr Brian Stewart, the Club's Senior Veterinary Officer, has today (9 September) advised that when he examined SPOT ON at the stables of Trainer D A Hayes yesterday, he noted the horse was lame behind and also exhibiting back pain. It has now been decided that before SPOT ON can race again, the horse will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
