Racing Incident Report
MILLENNIUM SUPREME left the gates very awkwardly and threw its head about, because of this lost a lot of ground. CONVERGENCE was slowly away. On leaving the gates, HALO KING PRAWN shifted out and bumped TOM'S FIRST. About the 600 Metres, KIMBO BELL and BIA DESERT bumped. The Stewards interviewed D Whyte (KIMBO BELL) and M Cahill (TOM'S FIRST) regarding an incident that took place on the Home Turn. It was established that TOM'S FIRST shifted out from behind HORNET which was giving ground in an endeavour to find clear running. At this time KIMBO BELL was racing slightly behind TOM'S FIRST. D Whyte, in an endeavour to hold his line on the bend, shifted his body slightly to the right hand side and during the incident his right elbow was raised. The Stewards were satisfied that at the time the incident was taking place, TOM'S FIRST was slightly ahead of KIMBO BELL. Further they were convinced there had been no contact between the elbow of D Whyte and the body of M Cahill or TOM'S FIRST and accordingly the matter was not proceeded with. D Whyte however was told over recent years he has been spoken to numerous times regarding the practice of raising his elbows towards other riders and whilst on this occasion no breach of the Rule occurred, in slightly different circumstances there may have been which could lead to serious action being taken. The Stewards told him it was a practice he should do all he can to refrain from this type of race riding. D Whyte said after the 200 Metres he spread his reins as wide as he could and got both hands down to the shoulder area of the horse in an endeavour to encourage it to get its head down. He said KIMBO BELL is a horse which is inclined to race awkwardly with its head up and he took this unusual measure because of the manner in which the horse was travelling.
