Racing Incident Report

SPEED MASTER was withdrawn on 30.5.02 on veterinary grounds (lame off fore limb) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter WIND BREAKER (D Dunn). Before racing again, SPEED MASTER will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. POWERFUL left the gates very awkwardly, threw its head about and just after the start was unbalanced. SUNNY DESERT was slowly away. Just after the start, WIN FORTUNE and SUNNY DESERT bumped. Throughout the race, WIND BREAKER hung out. When asked about the poor performance of SAMMY TREASURE, B Fayd'herbe said the horse so far he was aware went into the race well. He said he had been riding it everyday, its last strong work in his opinion was good and it was anticipated SAMMY TREASURE would run well tonight. He said the intention was to ride SAMMY TREASURE somewhere just behind the lead if possible. He explained the horse was restless in the stalls as it often is, missed the break slightly, was then crowded between WIN FORTUNE and WIND BREAKER and actually clipped the heels of WIND BREAKER and stumbled. He said after this he gave SAMMY TREASURE time to balance up, got further back than anticipated. He then attempted to go forward along the Back Straight, but SAMMY TREASURE did not respond as he thought it would, then rounding the latter part of the turn and in the Straight the horse hung in very badly and overall was tonight very disappointing. SAMMY TREASURE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
