Racing Incident Report
PERFECT VICTORY and EN RAPPORT were slowly away. In the middle stages, TREASURE STAR, which was proving very difficult to settle, threw its head about on several occasions when close to the heels of INDY'S GEM. About 100 Metres out, PEARL AND GOLD, which was hanging in, became unbalanced and changed course when awkward on the heels of SWEETIE which was giving ground. Apprentice S K Sit (SWEETIE) said he had been instructed to ride along from an outside gate and lead. He said SWEETIE jumped well, he then rode along to try and get to the front as instructed from the bad draw, was unable to do so and particularly in the early stages was obliged to cover a lot of ground. D Dunn (MEGA-FIGHTER) said from a good draw this evening the intention was to ride the horse about midfield if possible. He said MEGA-FIGHTER in the past has had a tendency in the gates to push forward with its head. Tonight as he endeavoured to prevent this, he sought the assistance of an attendant. He said when the gates opened, MEGA-FIGHTER bounded in the air and lost some ground. Because of this, he got further back than planned and was following TREASURE STAR which was over-racing, shifting a lot of ground in front of him and proved to be a difficult horse to follow. He said along the Back Straight he considered shifting to the extreme outside and try to make ground around the field, but he had ridden MEGA-FIGHTER like this once before and the trainer was not happy with that ride. He therefore shifted back and hoped to find running through the field, but was held for some distance behind TREASURE STAR and then experienced some difficulty obtaining a run between that horse and EN RAPPORT. He said MEGA-FIGHTER made good ground from straightening until after the 100 Metres, but then did go to the line somewhat one-paced. Whilst the Stewards told D Dunn his explanations were being accepted, his ride tonight had not been up to the standard he has usually displayed. MEGA-FIGHTER was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
