Racing Incident Report

UNIVERSAL PEGASUS jumped very awkwardly and threw its head about. WELL BEST and TOUCH DOWN were slowly away. W C Marwing (WELL BEST) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that approaching the 800 Metres after making ground quickly, he shifted in from behind TOUCH OF CLASS when not clear of FORTUNE DANCER. As a consequence of this, FORTUNE DANCER was crowded and shifted in, this caused STRATEGIC SELECT to lose running to which it was rightfully entitled and be checked. EARL GREY, which was following STRATEGIC SELECT, was checked as a consequence and shifted out abruptly. After considering all the circumstances and submissions put by W C Marwing, it was decided his licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Thursday 6 June 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting at Happy Valley next Wednesday 22 May 2002. In the Straight, TOUCH DOWN hung in. S Dye (DESERT STRIKE) said in the middle stages his mount became unbalanced and dipped several times. EARL GREY was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
