Racing Incident Report
Whilst being transported to the track, SPECTACULAR TALK became fractious and kicked loose the partition. SPECTACULAR TALK was unloaded, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and on his advice the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards on raceday morning. INCREDIBLE left the gates awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and brushed PRETTY BABY. When the gates opened, MAGIC WIN bounded in the air. On leaving the gates, CARRY-ON DREAMBOAT was steadied from an outside gate, shifted across behind the field to take up a position closer to the rail. RIGHT ON stumbled on leaving the stalls, shifted in slightly and brushed CITY FORTUNE. Apprentice K K Lai (MAGIC WIN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that after passing the winning post the first time he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of RIGHT ON. As a consequence of this, general crowding occurred to the inside of that runner, the main sufferers were GRANDSTAND which was severely checked, PRETTY BABY which was checked and INCREDIBLE which was unnecessarily hampered. After considering all the circumstances and submissions put by Mr A T Millard, the allocated trainer of Apprentice K K Lai, it was decided the appropriate penalty was for Apprentice K K Lai to be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 22 April 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting next Wednesday 10 April 2002 at Happy Valley. About the 1300 Metres, CITY FORTUNE was checked to avoid the heels of MAGIC WIN which was shifting in when not clear. Apprentice K K Lai was severely reprimanded and told he must exercise far greater care than this when shifting ground. Near the 600 Metres, STAR OF WAH YAN was steadied when momentarily tightened just inside the heels of RIGHT ON which hung in slightly. Approaching the winning post, C Williams (INCREDIBLE) momentarily dropped his near side rein. Throughout the race, CASH hung out.
