Racing Incident Report

FAIR DINKUM was withdrawn on 23.3.02 on veterinary grounds (lame near fore) and replaced by first Standby Declared Starter DESERT STRIKE. Before racing again, FAIR DINKUM will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. Subsequently DESERT STRIKE was withdrawn on 23.3.02 on veterinary grounds (inappetance) and replaced by second Standby Declared Starter LUCKY DICE (W Woods). The start was delayed as SWEETIE was difficult to load. Before being allowed to race again, SWEETIE will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. EN RAPPORT left the gates awkwardly, then knuckled. MY DELIGHT was slowly away. About the 1200 Metres, TOUCH OF CLASS, which was racing in blinkers for the first time and pulling, got its head up when being eased to avoid the heels of FELICITY (A Marcus) which was shifting in at an acute angle to a position towards the front. No direct action was taken, but A Marcus was severely reprimanded and told he simply has to ride with more care. About the 800 Metres, LOVE ON EARTH became unbalanced when racing close to the heels of FULL EFFORT. Also about the 800 Metres, FELICITY shifted in and bumped SONGS OF PRAISE. W C Marwing (COSMO STAR) said during the race he carried the whip in his left hand, but in the Straight as the horse was hanging in, he changed it into his right hand and endeavoured to ride the horse out whilst it was continuing to hang in. He said after the 200 Metres COSMO STAR started to shift out, because of this he stopped riding and straightened, again endeavoured to ride the horse out with the whip in his right hand, but near the winning post it shifted abruptly towards LOVE ON EARTH, because of this he put the whip down, stopped riding and straightened, and rode the horse to the line as best he could hands and heels. TOUCH OF CLASS was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
