Racing Incident Report
GOLDCHIN BEST was withdrawn on 19.3.02 on veterinary grounds (sore and swollen off fore fetlock) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter DESERT STRIKE (S Dye). Before being permitted to race again, GOLDCHIN BEST will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. On jumping, BLACK CARBINE knuckled. PEARL AND GOLD left the gates very awkwardly with its head up. On leaving the gates, DEEP PURPLE was crowded for room between FOREVER VICTORY which shifted out and MUNDAHISH which shifted in. D Whyte (BLACK CARBINE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that approaching the 1200 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of FOREVER VICTORY. As a consequence of this, FOREVER VICTORY struck the heels of BLACK CARBINE, knuckled and nearly fell. After considering all the circumstances of this case, the Stewards decided the appropriate penalty was that D Whyte be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 7 April 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong race days). In arriving at what the Stewards considered to be an appropriate penalty, they did acknowledge D Whyte had taken corrective measures, however, the facts established the measures he did take were too late. The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting next Sunday, 24 March 2002. About the 600 Metres, MR HAPPY was steadied when momentarily crowded by OLIVE OR TWIST which was inclined to be racing greenly and shifted ground. About the 500 Metres, GOLDEN SPIRIT and DESERT STRIKE came together. As a consequence, GOLDEN SPIRIT was momentarily unbalanced. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, MUNDAHISH hung out. E Legrix (FOREVER VICTORY) said after the incident approaching the 1200 Metres the horse did not stretch out as he thought it should and did not feel comfortable. He said in the run to the line he was concerned with the action of FOREVER VICTORY and did not ride it out as he normally would. He said on pulling up the horse in his opinion was blowing much harder than it should. Subsequently FOREVER VICTORY was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. An endoscopic examination was conducted, but the Veterinary Surgeon said he was unable to detect any significant abnormalities. Before being allowed to race again, FOREVER VICTORY will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. EXCITING TIMES was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
