Racing Incident Report
When being saddled, DEEP PURPLE became fractious and momentarily got down. The Veterinary Surgeon had the horse trotted up and after the necessary consultations he said in his opinion DEEP PURPLE was suitable to race. On jumping, AUTHORISED and FULL EFFORT bumped. On leaving the gates, MY DELIGHT got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly. As a consequence of this, it bumped FAIRWAY FINDER which in turn shifted ground and bumped BRILLIANT ATTORNEY. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, FLAGS UP, which was racing wide without any cover, hung out. The Stewards sustained the protest/objection lodged by E Legrix, the rider of JOINT PEACE, which finished 3rd, against PREMIER SPEED (D Whyte) being declared 2nd. E Legrix had alleged interference to his mount over about the last 200 Metres. The Stewards considered that when PREMIER SPEED shifted out after the 200 Metres, it carried JOINT PEACE from the running to which it was rightfully entitled and had caused interference to JOINT PEACE, the extent of which exceeded the neck margin between the two horses at the finish. The Stewards formed the opinion that JOINT PEACE would have finished ahead of PREMIER SPEED had the interference which clearly took place not occurred. In sustaining the protest/objection, the Stewards placed PREMIER SPEED immediately behind JOINT PEACE [Rule 101(2)]. Accordingly the amended placings became 1st SOUTH CHINA NINETY, 2nd JOINT PEACE, 3rd PREMIER SPEED, and 4th COMME D'HABITUDE. When PREMIER SPEED carried JOINT PEACE out near the 100 Metres, FLAGS UP and COMME D'HABITUDE which were outside JOINT PEACE were inconvenienced. In the Straight, MY DELIGHT hung in and proved somewhat difficult to ride out. After the 200 Metres, MY DELIGHT hung in and then caused some inconvenience to OPERATION HUMOUR.
