Racing Incident Report
The Senior Veterinary Surgeon reported that whilst HOLY RANTO was in the Parade Ring, he was concerned with its action in front. As a consequence of this, HOLY RANTO was examined at the Start. The necessary consultations were made and it was decided the horse was suitable to race. TRUSTY STEED and KING COBRA were slowly away. HEART'S CONTENT left the gates very awkwardly with its head up and shifted out abruptly. From a difficult gate, GREAT CHIEF and HOLY RANTO were ridden along early to try and go forward and get in, were not able to do so and were obliged to travel wide without any cover. For a short distance approaching and rounding the Home Turn, BELOVED PARTNER was held up behind SING SING SING and inside GREAT CHIEF. In the Straight, SUPER COMBINATION hung in. GREAT CHIEF was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said GREAT CHIEF had sustained a laceration to the inside of the coronet band of its off side hind leg. He also noted that GREAT CHIEF was coughing a lot and decided an endoscopic examination should be conducted. The Veterinary Surgeon said this revealed a significant amount of blood in the trachea.
