Racing Incident Report
SONIC was withdrawn on 21.12.01 on veterinary grounds (sore off fore tendon) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter DON INSIGHT (W M Lai). Before racing again, SONIC will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. DANHERO left the gates awkwardly, was further inconvenienced by DESERT STRIKE which on jumping shifted out. C'EST LA VIE was slowly away and just after the start was awkwardly placed on the hindquarters of WINNING MASCOT. When the gates opened, POPULAR CHOICE bounded in the air. Then running to the first turn, POPULAR CHOICE was unbalanced when awkwardly placed between ARABICA and C'LEST LA VIE. On jumping, from an outside gate, COSMO STAR was steadied, shifted across behind other runners to take up a position closer to the rail but towards the rear. When shifting in running to the first turn, COSMO STAR caused some inconvenience to SWEETIE. Rounding the latter part of the Home Turn and in the Straight, DESERT STRIKE hung out. After the 200 Metres, SWEETIE was steadied and shifted in abruptly to find running and go forward. When being shifted, SWEETIE became momentarily unbalanced and dipped. After the race, it was reported that WINNING MASCOT was bleeding from both nostrils.
