Racing Incident Report
TIME TO SURF left the gates very awkwardly and threw its head about. When being steadied just after the start, MR HONOUR got its head up. KINGDOM OF GOLD made the Home Turn the first time awkwardly and shifted out. In the early stages, AQUA PRINCE proved very difficult to settle, several times got its head up. About the 600 Metres, AQUA PRINCE shifted out from behind GOLDEN WARRIOR to follow TIME HONOUR. As a consequence of this, some inconvenience was caused to TIME TO SURF which for some distance was obliged to race considerably wider. Also about the 600 Metres, as runners were improving around the outside, TREMENDOUS WAY was steadied and shifted in across the heels of NATURE'S TREASURE. For some distance after the 500 Metres, TREMENDOUS WAY was awkwardly placed on the heels of KINGDOM OF GOLD which was giving ground. As a consequence of this, TREMENDOUS WAY lost its position as other runners continued to improve around the outside. About the 400 Metres, as TREMENDOUS WAY was endeavouring to shift out, it bumped GOLDEN WARRIOR. In the early part of the Straight, CHIEF'S FORTUNE hung in. Just after the 200 Metres, W Woods (GOLDEN WARRIOR) dropped his whip. When questioned, J Egan (LEAD TO WIN) said numerous tactics had been tried on the horse of recent times but without any success. He even suggested to the connections they use apprentices on LEAD TO WIN as the horse may show some form for them, it did, but when ridden by J Egan himself ran poorly. He said about two weeks ago the horse was ridden in front on the track and on that occasion this work was much better. It was therefore thought today the sensible thing to do would be to lead and hopefully lead comfortably. Accordingly on jumping he rode LEAD TO WIN along to get to the front, but when KINGDOM OF GOLD crossed, he decided it was in the best interests of his mount to take up a position behind that horse. He went on to say he was on a long rein and when KINGDOM OF GOLD shifted out turning into the Home Straight the first time, LEAD TO WIN went forward to race inside KINGDOM OF GOLD. J Egan said he had hoped KINGDOM OF GOLD would be steadied to take up a position somewhere behind him, but in the run he could see it was proving difficult to settle. J Egan said he realized during the race they were going too hard in front and it was not his intention to ride in such a fashion, but circumstances brought his ride about. He said had he known the pace was going to be as it was, he would clearly have ridden LEAD TO WIN much further back. It was thought the explanations from J Egan were reasonable and accordingly they were accepted. TREMENDOUS WAY was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, it was reported that TIME HONOUR had lost its off side front plate.
