Racing Incident Report

ALWAYS ZIETEN was slowly away, just after the start was brushed on the hindquarters by HOROSCOPE which had also missed the start. PRINCE O' REILLY bounded in the air at the start and just afterwards brushed the hindquarters of INTERVENE. On jumping, from an outside gate, GALLANT HORSE was steadied, shifted across behind other runners to take up a position towards the rail but at the rear. D Oliver (RARE COLLECTION) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that near the 800 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of JOINT PEACE. As a consequence of this, JOINT PEACE and JIMMY THE GREEK lost running to which they were rightfully entitled and were checked. D Oliver was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 6 January 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong race days). After taking into account special submissions from D Oliver, it was decided in this case the commencement of the suspension be deferred until after midnight Wednesday 19 December 2001, Eastern Australian time. Near the 500 Metres, GOLDEN STALLION was momentarily unbalanced when racing tight inside SONG FOR SZESZE. In the early part of the Straight, ALWAYS ZIETEN was steadied and shifted out to avoid JIMMY THE GREEK, then after the 400 Metres ALWAYS ZIETEN was shifted in. For some distance near the 400 Metres, DOUBLE MARTINI was awkwardly placed close to the heels of JOINT PEACE. In the Straight, PRINCE O' REILLY hung in. As a consequence of this, in the run to the winning post, some inconvenience was caused to INTERVENE. DOUBLE MARTINI was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, it was reported that both JIMMY THE GREEK and DOUBLE MARTINI were bleeding from both nostrils.
