Racing Incident Report
KIMBO BELL jumped awkwardly and threw its head up. In the early stages, MENDOZA pulled hard and proved difficult to settle when initially racing wide and then after that close to the heels of SILENT PARTNER. About the 300 Metres, DESERT STORM was checked and changed course when disappointed for running between BIA DESERT and VALUATE which was weakening. Mr G Lane, trainer of SILENT PARTNER, said the horse at its first run this season was ridden by B Marcus and as he was unavailable for the horse's last run because of suspension he engaged S Dye. He said on that occasion at Happy Valley he was a little disappointed with SILENT PARTNER as it got so far out of its ground, but he was aware SILENT PARTNER was crowded near the 1000 Metres and this in his opinion had some bearing on its position in the run. He said B Marcus was available today and he was again offered the ride. Mr Lane said SILENT PARTNER was working similarly in the lead up to today's race as it was before Happy Valley and he pointed out except for the Happy Valley run the racing form of SILENT PARTNER in his opinion is consistent. Mr Lane however was told it is in his interests and the interests of all for runners as much as possible to race with some degree of consistency and he should not place himself or anyone else in a position whereby a breach of Rule 12(26) could occur. VALUATE and KIMBO BELL were sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that after the race VALUATE was making a respiratory noise. He said an endoscopic examination was carried out which revealed a significant amount of blood in the windpipe and at the larynx. He said there was also some evidence of laryngeal paralysis. The Veterinary Surgeon said this problem might be alleviated with surgery. After the race, it was noted that HORSE OF FAME was bleeding from both nostrils.
