Racing Incident Report

Prior to being presented in the Parade Ring, FLYING CHAMPION became fractious and threw itself down. Acting on veterinary advice, FLYING CHAMPION was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. When the gates opened, OPEN TREASURE bounded in the air. The off side point to which the stirrup leather and girth are attached to the saddle of OPEN TREASURE broke. As a consequence of this, K H Ting had no alternative but to ease the horse out of the race. On jumping, FOREVER VICTORY and CHEEKY brushed, almost immediately after this CHEEKY shifted out abruptly and bumped POWER OF SUCCESS which was crowded for some distance. MR PRESIDENT jumped awkwardly with its head up and shifted out. BRILLIANT left the gates awkwardly. Then near the 300 Metres, BRILLIANT was steadied and shifted out across the heels of CHEEKY in an endeavour to find running. In an endeavour to improve between FOREVER VICTORY and BANK ON IT at about 200 Metres out, BRILLIANT was steadied and shifted in. Near the winning post, when having a tendency to race awkwardly and being shifted out across the heels of FOREVER VICTORY, BRILLIANT accidentally clipped the heels of that runner. Near the 1200 Metres, FOREVER VICTORY, which was awkwardly placed just outside the heels of BANK ON IT, shifted ground slightly and bumped CHEEKY. Running to the first turn, CHEEKY got its head up when pulling and close to the heels of THE GREATEST. Near the 800 Metres, MASCOT became unbalanced when pulling and close to the hindquarters of BUENO BUENO. W Woods (ELECTRONIC SEEKER) was charged with a breach of Rule 100(2) in that he had failed to ride the horse out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The Stewards acknowledged that Jockey Woods had shifted ELECTRONIC SEEKER into the clear and ridden his mount hard, but then approaching the finishing line he failed to ride the horse out right to the end of the race. Jockey Woods pleaded not guilty, however, after the Stewards gave careful consideration to all submissions he had made, they decided the charge could be sustained. Accordingly W Woods was found guilty and suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 2 December 2001 on which day he may resume race riding (5 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting at Sha Tin next Wednesday 14 November 2001. CHEEKY was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
