Racing Incident Report
On jumping, BUMPER SUPREME and GLOBAL RUNNER bumped. DEVON ELITE came out awkwardly and bumped the inside of its stall. ASIA STAR bounded in the air when the gates opened, just after the start was steadied when momentarily crowded between FAVOURITE EXPRESS and SPEED WIN. In the early stages, SPEED WIN pulled and proved difficult to settle. About the 800 Metres, FAVOURITE EXPRESS was steadied to avoid the heels of WINNING DRAGON which shifted to a position behind BUMPER SUPREME. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, HONG KONG STAR hung out badly. As a consequence of this, some inconvenience was caused to WINNING DRAGON which was taken out to be close to the heels of FISH KING. Near the 400 Metres, ENERGETIC PRINCE was steadied when awkward on the heels of GOLDEN YEARS. Then in the Straight, ENERGETIC PRINCE was shifted out rather abruptly to find running and go forward. Near the 300 Metres, GLOBAL RUNNER was steadied to avoid HONG KONG STAR which was weakening. The Stewards afforded Mr Frances Wong (FAIRWAY FINDER), the assistant to Trainer Moore, an opportunity to explain the horse's improved run when compared with its two performances so far this season. Mr Wong explained Mr Moore was out of Hong Kong but had directed if possible the horse be ridden somewhere in 4th or 5th position and again if possible to find some cover. Mr Wong pointed out the horse was able to be ridden in accordance with these instructions and he did say FAIRWAY FINDER has had a short break from its last run, has been freshened up, but so far as he was concerned he was aware there had been no significant changes to the horse's work pattern, the manner in which the horse was able to win today did surprise him and he was unable to put forward any real explanation for the improvement. WINNING DRAGON was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that WINNING DRAGON had sustained a laceration to its off side front coronet band.
