Racing Incident Report

HAPPY FOREVER jumped awkwardly with its head up, shifted out and made contact with OCEAN CHANNEL, then in the early stages continued to race a little awkwardly and throw its head about. PLENTY WIN left the gates very awkwardly and threw its head about, then was obliged to race wide throughout and without any cover. About the 600 Metres, SMART HORSE and GOLDEN DUKE came together as SMART HORSE was endeavouring to shift from behind OCEAN CHANNEL. About the 400 Metres, OCEAN CHANNEL, which was weakening, was momentarily crowded by SMART HORSE. When asked about the disappointing performance of NON SEQUITUR, F Coetzee said he had been instructed from a gate towards the outside to make sure the horse jump cleanly, to go forward if possible and cross and lead. He said whilst he realised there was some pace drawn inside him he did anticipate NON SEQUITUR would be able to go forward and join the lead. He said however the horse left the gates well, did not show the speed he expected in the early stages, could not get to the front, raced wide and without cover. He went on to say NON SEQUITUR commenced to give ground a long way out and over the concluding stages was very disappointing. He pointed out NON SEQUITUR is a relatively small horse and early in the week the horse did put more into its work than was intended, but when he exercised NON SEQUITUR yesterday morning the horse was bright and the stable expected the horse would be competitive in tonight's race. Before racing again, NON SEQUITUR will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. MASCOT TREASURE and NON SEQUITUR were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
