Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, METRO FLYER became fractious. As W Woods was concerned the saddle might have shifted, the horse was released from the gates, the gear was inspected, found to be satisfactory and METRO FLYER was then re-boxed for the race. NOBLE CHARGE was slowly away. Near the 1000 Metres, METRO FLYER was checked when crowded between GANBARIA STAR which got its head up and shifted out and MISSION SEALED. The Stewards questioned E Saint-Martin (LOOK WHO'S ANGEL) and B Marcus (JET JACKSON) regarding an incident which occurred at about the 600 Metres. It was established that in the run up to the incident LOOK WHO'S ANGEL had shifted from behind JOKERS WILD into a legitimate but tight run inside JET JACKSON. JET JACKSON and LOOK WHO'S ANGEL then raced unnecessarily tight for some time due mainly to JET JACKSON shifting in slightly. The Stewards after giving consideration to all the circumstances and bearing in mind there might have been a slight shift out from JOKERS WILD on the inside, they decided to take no direct action, but B Marcus was told his tight riding on this occasion had bordered on being unacceptable. He was severely reprimanded and told a repetition of such hard riding could not be condoned and in slightly different circumstances he may have been facing a significant charge. When questioned, W C Marwing (WINNING DELIGHTS) explained it had been pointed out to him that the horse was running first up from a lengthy spell. He said he had been instructed by the Trainer if possible to refrain from pulling the whip. He said in his opinion in the run to the winning post WINNING DELIGHTS was racing at its top when being ridden hands and heels, he therefore elected to continue to ride his mount out in this fashion to the finish. He was told his riding over the concluding stages had caused concern and whilst the Stewards accept some horses early in their preparation have to be ridden somewhat carefully, it is a fine line which on this occasion he had almost crossed. He was also told he must ride in a manner which leaves no room for query. When asked about the performance of JOKERS WILD, R Fradd said he had ridden the horse in some work of recent times. He went on to say this work was encouraging and it was anticipated that JOKERS WILD would be competitive in tonight's race. He said he rode along early to take up a forward position, but when JOKERS WILD was joined in front in the middle stages the horse appeared to drop the bit and was reluctant to hold its spot. He continued by saying that rounding the Home Turn JOKERS WILD continued to race awkwardly when tight inside LOOK WHO'S ANGEL and over the concluding stages was quite disappointing. He did say JOKERS WILD is still in his opinion quite green and may race better if allowed more time to settle. JOKERS WILD was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
