Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the course, it was reported that CARRY-ON DREAMBOAT had travelled badly in the float. CARRY-ON DREAMBOAT was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said the horse had sustained a minor wound to the near side stifle. He trotted the horse up, discussed its condition with the Assistant Trainer and it was then decided that CARRY-ON DREAMBOAT was suitable to race. Before the race, Mr T P Wong, Trainer of THE RICH MAN, said at its last run over 2200 Metres he had instructed J Murtagh to try and ensure the horse was settled as it was not finishing its races off. He said after the race J Murtagh told him he had difficulty settling THE RICH MAN and in the Straight the horse was well beaten. He said tonight from a good barrier, over slightly less ground, it was the intention to instruct J Murtagh to try and ride the horse in a forward position, but if necessary he was happy for the horse to lead. J Murtagh said he has been on the horse almost everyday at the track since its last run, has been endeavouring to educate the horse to settle and he is of the view it is now much better. Also before the race, JADE RUYI had its near side hind plate refitted. ROMANTIC VENTURE (W Woods) left the gates awkwardly. W Woods bumped the inside gate and was unbalanced. Passing the winning post the first time, THE RICH MAN threw its head about when being steadied from the heels of JADE RUYI which shifted in when barely clear. However, JADE RUYI did not shift to the position against the running rail, as a consequence of this at about the 600 Metres, THE RICH MAN was able to make ground inside JADE RUYI. In the early stages, HOLLYWOOD STAR, which was racing wide, proved difficult to settle and threw its head about numerous times. Near the 500 Metres, ME AND YOU and JADE RUYI came together. KOWLOON'S BLESSING made the Home Turn awkwardly, about the 400 Metres was bumped by DE INTEGRO which shifted out from behind JADE RUYI. Just after straightening, when hit with the whip, ME AND YOU shifted in and brushed THE RICH MAN. From a difficult gate, ASPIRATION was obliged to race wide and mostly without cover. THE RICH MAN and ASPIRATION were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
