Racing Incident Report
LIFO was slowly away. DE INTEGRO left the gates badly, shifted out, then for some strides just after the start proved difficult to settle and raced with its head up. INDIAN TAIPAN jumped awkwardly, bumped the inside of its gate, then just after the start shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of PRETTY BABY. About the 400 Metres, INDIAN TAIPAN was steadied from the heels of LIFO. Approaching and rounding the turn, SOUNDS GOOD had a tendency to lay out. About the 300 Metres, HOLY WINE was checked when crowded for room by INVINCIBLE GENERAL (A Marcus) which was hanging in and shifted ground. The Stewards were satisfied that A Marcus had taken all reasonable measures to avoid causing the crowding and no action was taken. After being checked near the 300 Metres, HOLY WINE was shifted out and was again checked when disappointed for running between INVINCIBLE GENERAL and LIFO and after this was shifted back to improve inside INVINCIBLE GENERAL. Apprentice K C Tsang (KOWLOON'S BLESSING) said he had been instructed by the Trainer from a good gate to ride the horse somewhere in about 3rd or 4th position if possible. He said because of the way the race was run, he was able to do this without too much difficulty. Mr D Cruz, Trainer of KOWLOON'S BLESSING, acknowledged that at some of its recent runs the horse had been getting back, but in a recent trial it showed speed and led, and from a good gate today he did instruct Apprentice Tsang to ride the horse somewhere just behind the leaders if possible. Mr Cruz said he was satisfied with the way the horse was ridden by a senior Jockey at its last run, but as he was not available, he sought the services of a claiming Apprentice on this occasion. The explanations submitted by Apprentice Tsang and by Mr Cruz were accepted. HOLY WINE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
