Racing Incident Report
K S Yu (FLYING KNIGHT) was reprimanded for failing to declare 1 lb overweight at declaration time. GOLD FLASK jumped awkwardly and threw its head about. FAME AND WEALTH left the gates with its head in the air. In the early stages, PERFECT CHOICE hung in. About the 600 Metres, FAME AND WEALTH brushed the running rail when tight inside SPEED CAT. Just after this, FAME AND WEALTH shifted out, made contact with SPEED CAT which then shifted out and bumped FORTUNE SALLIAN which became unbalanced and shifted out onto the hindquarters of WINWIN COMBINATION. Because of all the circumstances, no action was taken. For some distance near the 500 Metres, SPEED CAT raced awkwardly between MASTERKEY and FAME AND WEALTH which had a tendency to shift out away from the rail. Rounding the Home Turn, CORE PRINCIPLES hung in. About the 200 Metres, SPEED CAT was checked when disappointed for running between TIME WELL, which was giving ground, and CORE PRINCIPLES which was being taken out slightly by FLYING KNIGHT. In view of all the circumstances, no action was taken. Just after this incident, TIME WELL, which was continuing to give ground, was momentarily crowded between SUPER CONNECTIONS and CORE PRINCIPLES which shifted out away from FLYING KNIGHT. C Brown (CORE PRINCIPLES) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that in the run to the line, he permitted CORE PRINCIPLES to shift in whilst riding it out when not clear of other runners. As a consequence of this, FLYING KNIGHT and FAME AND WEALTH were unnecessarily crowded for room. After taking into account the submissions put by C Brown including commitments he has in Australia, the matters he put in mitigation regarding CORE PRINCIPLES hanging in, it was decided his licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Sunday, 11 February 2001 on which day he may resume race riding. In addition, he was fined $25,000. The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Australian meeting at which he has firm commitments on Saturday, 3 February 2001. Before the declaration of weighed-in, Apprentice Y T Cheng (FAME AND WEALTH) sought permission to view the available official video films as he considered there may have been grounds to object against CORE PRINCIPLES being declared the winner. After viewing the available films, he was of the opinion that because of where the crowding occurred and bearing in mind the margin between his horse and the winner, it would on this occasion be inappropriate for him to formally object. SPEED CAT was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
