Racing Incident Report

RAINBOW AND GOLD was slowly away. KIWI STAR jumped awkwardly, bumped the outside of its gate. Near the 1600 Metres, KIWI STAR got its head up when awkward on the heels of TEAM HONOUR. Then near the 800 Metres, KIWI STAR became unbalanced when crowded between SATISFACTION SMILE and TEAM HONOUR. About the 700 Metres, SOUND GALLOP was steadied when crowded by SUCCESSFUL SPIRIT which momentarily shifted in away from SEA PEARL. An incident occurred about the 600 Metres when ZABETTE shifted away from the running rail, causing SEA PEARL to lose the running to which it was entitled and obliging that horse to race wider. Evidence was taken from E Saint-Martin (ZABETTE) and W Woods (SEA PEARL). The matter was adjourned to the Happy Valley Race Course next Wednesday night, 10 January 2001. About the 300 Metres, the whip being used by W Woods (SEA PEARL) broke. Apprentice S K Sit (TEAM HONOUR) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 200 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when riding along. As a consequence of this, STRATEGIC MOVE lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled, was crowded onto BRILLIANT LEADER and checked. In all the circumstances of this case, it was decided that the appropriate penalty was Apprentice S K Sit be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Saturday, 27 January 2001 on which day he may resume race riding. The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley meeting next Wednesday, 10 January 2001. About the 200 Metres, BRILLIANT LEADER, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded between STRATEGIC MOVE and RAINBOW AND GOLD which shifted out slightly. When STRATEGIC MOVE checked at about the 200 Metres, it shifted out abruptly and carried KIWI STAR onto the heels of VICTORY DRUM. As a consequence of this, KIWI STAR was checked. After the 100 Metres, WONDERFUL WINNERS, which was not finishing off, was crowded for room between RAINBOW AND GOLD which shifted in away from TEAM HONOUR and GOLDCHIN BEST which shifted out slightly. E Saint-Martin (ZABETTE) said on leaving the gates his left foot bumped the side of the stalls and it shifted further into the stirrup iron as is his usual practice. Because of this, he spent some time along the Back Straight adjusting his foot so that he was riding on his toe. SUCCESSFUL SPIRIT and STRATEGIC MOVE were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
