Racing Incident Report

TAURUS left the gates very awkwardly, as a consequence lost considerable ground. SPEED WIN jumped awkwardly, threw its head up and was then further inconvenienced by ALL THRILLS TOO which on jumping shifted out. From a difficult gate, ALL THE BEST was obliged to race wide throughout and was not able to find any cover. Just after the start, BRILLIANT ATTORNEY was awkward when tight between ALF which momentarily shifted out and HANDBAG'S HONOUR which was taken in slightly by MERRY MERRY. On straightening, ALL THRILLS TOO jumped a shadow across the track. In the early part of the Straight, ACE OF PACE shifted out and brushed BLACK MAGIC. When asked about the disappointing performance of BLACK MAGIC, S Dye said the horse today was racing up a class and also was having its first race start around a bend. He did say from a difficult gate he was able to go forward, but was obliged to cover some ground throughout. He said in the early part of the Straight, BLACK MAGIC was unbalanced when awkward between ALL THE BEST and ACE OF PACE which was shifting out to go forward, but in the circumstances he was of the opinion this incident was of little significance. He said over the concluding stages he did not ride BLACK MAGIC out as he normally would as the horse was well beaten. S Dye did say the horse had taken some time to recover from its last run on 22 November 2000, but over recent days its work had been satisfactory. BLACK MAGIC was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that ALF had bled from both nostrils.
