Racing Incident Report

FORTUNE RIVER jumped awkwardly, bumped the inside of its gate. On jumping, BASKETBALL WINNER became unbalanced when crowded between BOUNTY GUARD and FORTUNE RIVER, both of which shifted some ground. SUPREME CHAMPION left the gates badly and got its head up. Near the 1000 Metres, FAIR COMMENT raced with its head in an unusual position. As a consequence of this, CROWN REGENT, which was following, was inconvenienced. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, SUPREME CHAMPION had a tendency to lay out. Just before straightening, CROWN REGENT and SPARKO came together. F Coetzee (MONEY STAR) explained over the 1600 Metres and from a difficult gate it was hoped today to find a position somewhere about 4th or 5th with the horse. He said MONEY STAR jumped well, but then despite his efforts the horse would not go forward and take up the intended position and got further out of its ground than was the intention. He said at about the 1000 Metres MONEY STAR got right off the bit and he was obliged to ride harder than planned to try and keep up. He said running to the Home Turn he was keen to improve, but was unable to do so and in the Straight when runs did come, he put the horse under full pressure as soon as possible. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that SPARKO had re-opened an old wound on its near side heel.
