Racing Incident Report
W M Lai was fined $2,000 for accepting the rides on both PRETTY BABY and APPLES AND ORANGES. It was established he had a firm commitment for APPLES AND ORANGES. After arriving at the barriers, NINGBO WARRIOR became fractious, pulled away from an attendant and in doing so dislodged the bridle. W Woods then dismounted from the horse. NINGBO WARRIOR worked for more than a circuit of the course, was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. BEAUTIFULDAY jumped awkwardly, bumped the inside of its gate, then approaching and rounding the Home Turn hung out. W M Lai (APPLES AND ORANGES) explained at no stage of the race was the horse in his opinion properly balanced, however he did acknowledge he failed to ride the horse out to the end of the race at least hands and heels. W M Lai was told this practice must stop and whenever possible he must ride at least hands and heels right to the finish. B Marcus (BEAUTIFULDAY) was reminded of his obligation to ride all mounts out at least hands and heels right to the winning post whenever possible. ASCOT HERO and KING'S PREMIUM were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
