Racing Incident Report

BLAZING BOB jumped poorly, bumped the inside of its gate. ONE STEP AHEAD left the gates badly with its head in the air and shifted out. In the early part of the Straight, EASY WAY was steadied when tightened between GOOD MESSAGE and BLAZING BOB which shifted in from behind JIMMY THE GREEK. About right on the winning post, MR HAPPY and CHIU CHOW BOY were checked when crowded between TOPSPIN TOO (W C Marwing) which shifted in slightly and GOOD MESSAGE (J Egan) which shifted out whilst being ridden hard to the line. In view of the proximity of the incident to the finish and the contributing factors involving both J Egan and W C Marwing, no action was taken, but W C Marwing was told in similar circumstances he should stop riding and straighten and J Egan was reprimanded and also told he should stop riding and straighten to avoid causing similar crowding. When questioned, F Coetzee (REPUTATION) said the horse jumped a little awkwardly, shifted ground and was for some distance close to the heels of BONANZA. He said the horse has not been finishing its races off as expected, has been generally disappointing and today he rode it quietly in an endeavour to ensure the horse would find the line. He said in the Straight there was an opportunity for him to improve inside MR HAPPY, but he felt it was in the best interests of REPUTATION to wait, shift to the outside and ensure the horse had an uninterrupted running, then over the concluding stages the horse did make some ground, but again near the winning post because of the crowding in front of him he was inconvenienced. F Coetzee was told whilst his riding in the early part of the Straight did cause some concern, the explanations he submitted were on this occasion accepted. BLAZING BOB was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, it was noted that SAINTLY PARTNERS had lost its near side front plate.
