Racing Incident Report
It was established that W M Lai had accepted the engagements for both CHUK WAY and SPARKO. However, after considering all the circumstances, it was decided that no action would be taken against W M Lai, but he was told in similar circumstances action will be taken. Permission was granted for R Fradd to be substituted as the rider of SPARKO at declaration time. The start was delayed as FLYING KNIGHT was difficult to load. Before being permitted to race again, FLYING KNIGHT will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial (stalls test). AMIABLE jumped awkwardly, shifted ground and bumped the inside of its gate. SPARKO left the gates with its head up and shifted out. Apprentice C P Ting (FLYING KNIGHT), in the presence of his allocated Trainer, Mr L Ho, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 132 (i)]. The careless riding being that at about the 800 Metres he allowed FLYING KNIGHT to shift in when not clear of FLIGHT OF FANCY. As a consequence of this, FLIGHT OF FANCY was carried in across the running of BORN SMART which lost ground to which it was rightfully entitled and was checked. After taking into account all the circumstances of this case, it was decided that Apprentice C P Ting be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 2 November 2000 on which day he may resume race riding. The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley meeting next Wednesday. About the 600 Metres, SIMON'S DECISION was steadied and shifted out to avoid BABY WAVE SUPREME which was giving ground. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, HONEST STEED hung out. K H Ting (SUPER FORTUNE) was fined $3,000 for using his whip in a manner which resulted in the horse being marked on the off side. CHUK WAY was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
