Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the course, APPLAUSE FOR ME was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He reported that in his opinion the horse was lame in its off fore leg and not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, APPLAUSE FOR ME was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before the horse can race again, it will be subject to an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, SPEEDY FORWARD threw its head up and as a consequence came out very awkwardly. GO FOR GIN also jumped with its head up, shifted out and as a consequence lost significant ground. PERFECT SPORT, which was standing with its head slightly to the near side, missed the start, then in the Straight was eased down. Apprentice C T Cheng explained he was of the view the horse was having difficulty with its breathing and did not ride it out as he normally would. Before PERFECT SPORT can race again, it will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subject to an official veterinary examination. In the early stages, INCA ROSE, which was obliged to be racing wide without any cover, took some time to settle and in the middle stages got its head up and threw it about. After the 200 Metres, SAINT TAK, which was running into the race nicely, was held up for running between TIME WELL and WINNING FOCUS. Shortly after this, WINNING FOCUS was taken out slightly by CHEETAH which when weakening shifted ground. As a consequence of this, SAINT TAK clipped the heels of WINNING FOCUS and knuckled. In the circumstances, no action was taken. W C Marwing (SUNNY DAY) explained near the 400 Metres he was attempting to find running between STARLIGHT SUPREME and INCA ROSE, but was unable to do so, then on straightening shifted to the inside of STARLIGHT SUPREME to go forward, but as he attempted to do so STARLIGHT SUPREME shifted in, therefore he had to take hold of SUNNY DAY and shift to its outside to obtain clear running and ride the horse out. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that SAINT TAK had sustained a laceration to the pastern area of its off side front leg.
