Racing Incident Report

D O'Neill, the declared rider for MAGIC WIN, was fined $2,000 for presenting himself at the scale excessively overweight [Rule 121(v)]. Permission was granted for B Doyle to be substituted. Before being presented in the parade yard, ASIAN EXPRESS, had its near side front plate refitted. HERO'S CHOICE, which had been restless after being boxed, jumped awkwardly, shifted out abruptly. As a consequence of this, TIME WELL was checked and INCREASE SPEED hampered. MAGIC WIN missed the start. Just after the start, RORY'S BID was checked when crowded between EVER GAIN and GOOD JOB, both of which shifted a little ground. In the early states, GOOD JOB (Apprentice C T Cheng) hung in, this caused the saddle to shift back. As a consequence of this, Apprentice C T Cheng was placed at a considerable disadvantage and had no alternative but to ease the horse down. On the turn, KOWLOON CHIEF struck the running rail. Near the 600 Metres, RORY'S BID shifted ground, became unbalanced on the heels of HERO'S CHOICE. The occurrence was accidental. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, INCREASE SPEED hung out. At times in the Straight, KNIGHT COMMANDER was awkwardly placed behind KOWLOON CHIEF and WINWIN COMBINATION. Throughout the race, EVER GAIN hung in, particularly in the Straight where it hung in badly and proved difficult to ride out. W Woods (WINWIN COMBINATION) explained in the Straight the horse was not stretching out as he thought it should and because of this he changed his whip hand several times.
