Background: Alfred Chan commenced overseas training in New Zealand in April, 2015 under the guidance of Christchurch based trainer Mike McCann and later with Allan Sharrock in New Plymouth. He was able to ride 49 winners from 469 race rides in New Zealand. He relocated to South Australia in December, 2017, initially with Morphettville-based trainer Lloyd Kennewell and then under the guidance of Jon O’Connor, and rode a further 51 wins from 603 race rides. He had 100 race wins whilst riding overseas at a winning strike rate of just under 10%. He was indentured to trainer Frankie Lor upon arriving in Hong Kong. His first local winner came at Sha Tin on 7 April, 2019 aboard Care Free Prince and he made it a first double with California Fortune. Chan ended his first term with nine wins. He returned in 2019/20 with 22 wins and landed his first treble on 7 June, 2020 at Sha Tin. Chan transferred in January, 2021 to join the Caspar Fownes yard and he completed that season with seven wins before adding a further 15, six and six in 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24, respectively. |
